Dear Phone

Introduction

The red English telephone box has fascinated generations of people, both native and foreign, for decades. Greenaway takes this well-loved icon and in his unique way gives us a totally new perspective of an everyday object.

In Dear Phone we are presented with images of red telephone boxes in every imaginable setting. As the soundtrack reveals stories connected to each image, we struggle to make links between them. Greenaway is playing with his audience; the only links are those each spectator creates for themselves.

The quintessentially English red phone box is photographed in every conceivable setting as the droll narration weaves a series of bizarre and wonderful stories. Pure Greenaway, teasing, eccentric and delightfully surreal.
