Intervals

Greenaway

Intervals is a list of shots of the back allies and canals of a winter-time Venice, repeated three times with a different soundtrack, as though jaunty, self-parodying Vivaldi might have been a film-maker. It is a black and white film essay, ostensibly de-romanticising Venice and bowing to Cagean demands of structural order pursued come what may. Its wry perversity is to deny Venice its commanding characteristic of water.
