The Best Music in Film
Robert Farnon
(Composed the music for Raoul Walsh's Captain Horatio Hornblower R.N.)
- S&S: What is your favourite film soundtrack music and why do you like it so much?
- "Henry Vth (1944), in its marvellous balance of music and sound effects. The music was good in the battle scene that it didn't need any sound effects."
- S&S: In what ways does music best enhance a film?
- "As an old romantic, I'd say music always adds to the romantic effect. A battle scene will work well enough with just sound effects, but you need music for romantic moments"
- S&S: Which film either has music that you wished you'd written or is one you would like to rescore and why?
- "The first battle scene in Captain Horatio Hornblower R.N. (1950)"
