(Composed the music for The Heart of a Man and Watership Down (1978). Frequently composed for television, including Hancock's Half-Hour)
- S&S: What is your favourite film soundtrack music and why do you like it so much?
- "I'll answer Laura (1944) because it creates the persona of a character that is thought to be dead."
- S&S: In what ways does music best enhance a film?
- "Music can set a mood or energize a scene and can create a third dimension by suggesting something or someone (as in 1b) that cannot otherwise be expressed by ordinary cinematic methods."
- S&S: Which film either has music that you wished you'd written or is one you would like to rescore and why?
- "I cannot select one film but to try answer the question. Any Alex North score, David Raksin's score to Laura (1944), Jerry Goldsmith's Chinatown (1974), The Omen (1976) or almost any John Williams score."
