The Best Music in Film

Dennis Hopper

(Hot Spot, Colors)

S&S: What is your favourite film soundtrack music and why do you like it so much?
"Hot Spot (1990) is my favourite film in terms of the music, where I used John Lee Hooker, Miles Davis, and Taj Mahal all together, with the great scoring by Jack Nitzsche."
S&S: In what ways does music best enhance a film?
"Colors (1988) was the first time rap music got major exposure, and was on the charts. This soundtrack sold over a million copies, first rap to go gold."
S&S: Which film either has music that you wished you'd written or is one you would like to rescore and why?
"Easy Rider (1969) is the most effective sequence of music as it was the first film to use found music. Everything previously had been soundtracks before that."
