NOSTROMO (Unrealised Film Project 1986 - 1991 (Euro Films))

Note: "Nostromo" was David Lean's final project before his death in 1991. The film was originally to be produced by Steven Spielberg for Warner Brothers, but after he and Lean disagreed over the script, he withdrew and the production was taken over by Serge Silberman. There were a number of problems with the script: originally it was to be co - written by Christopher Hampton, who was then replaced by Robert Bolt, who subsequently proved unsatisfactory and Lean himself took over, with the help of Maggie Unsworth. Lean was dogged by ill health during the film project and died six weeks before the film was due to start shooting; work on the film project was abandoned.
