Lost & Found

While researching background materials and scouting locations for his version of the story of the mutiny on HMS Bounty, David Lean became interested in another tale - the discovery and salvage of one of Captain Cook's missing anchors, cut loose from one of his ships in August 1773, off Tahiti. Lean approached South Pacific Television with a proposal to make a documentary about the salvage operation, and subsequently worked on the script with Robert Bolt. The resulting documentary won the London Festival Choice Award at the 24th London Film Festival in 1980.
